Some of the Trips We Made in Portugal
Mark worked remotely while we were in Portugal - the miracles of a phone and modem. But every weekend we
went someplace new and spent the weekend. The 2 weekends I taught we left after class but the other weekends
we left on Friday afternoon. We never made reservations ahead of time except in Lisbon because we could get
a weekend internet rate from the Holiday Inn if we booked ahead of time. The Portuguese Tourist industry is not nearly as advanced as the other Countries in the EU. Very few places have information on line and very few hotels (the local ones) have an online presence either.

- El Puerta de Santa Maria in Spain near Cadiz
- The Algarve
- Castelo de Vide - very nice walled city
- Marvão - another walled city but it has incredible views across the plains.
- Vila Viçosa - ask where the back road past the marble quarries are. Then stop by the side of the road and look down. We always stopped on a weekend so no one was working but the scale of the hole is amazing. OSHA would have a heart attack at the lack of fencing!
- Vila Nova de Milfontes - nice small beach town. You will see the full spectrum of Portuguese roads trying to get to this small town.
